Custom Docks Built for Raleigh's Lakes and Private Waterfront

Raleigh’s water sits a little apart from the neighborhoods. Falls Lake and Jordan Lake anchor the region, private community lakes dot the newer subdivisions, and plenty of homes back up to a pond or a quiet cove that is begging for a proper dock. Each of those settings has its own rules, water levels, and shoreline, and a dock has to be designed for the one you actually own.

We are RaynorShine Construction, a licensed North Carolina general contractor. Alongside the 350-plus decks we have built, docks and boathouses are a core part of our work, which puts us in a smaller group than the deck-only outfits you will find around the Triangle.

We build fixed piling docks, floating docks that ride the changing lake levels, and full boathouses with lifts and covered slips. Freshwater and shifting water tables are hard on the wrong materials, so we frame and fasten with hardware chosen to sit in a Carolina lake for decades.

What Our Dock Clients Tell Us

The best measure of a dock builder is whether the structure is still solid and the owner still happy years after the last piling went in, and that is the story our clients tend to tell.

I contacted RaynorShine Construction recently to resurface a dock area. Branson listened to what I wanted done and offered some helpful suggestions from the type of lumber to the type of screws to use for best results.

The process from the estimate to the completed work was professional, done quickly and the site was kept neat and clean. Branson and Hunter worked really hard and we are very pleased with the final product. I would definitely recommend RaynorShine Construction for any exterior or interior home remodeling projects.

Great job repairing my existing deck around my dock.

Explained what I thought was needed. He listened and made some very insightful recommendations that would add to the life of the new decking. He and his crew worked hard and as a result, the deck looks fantastic. I would highly recommend him for any project. Polite, professional and receptive.

So, What Does a Custom Dock in Raleigh Run?

A dock is priced to the water it stands in: the depth, the bottom, the distance to usable water, and whether you want a simple platform or a covered boathouse all move the number. Here is the general lay of the land:

We give you a firm figure after we see the site, and our final-price guarantee keeps it there.

How We Build Your Dock

1

Site and Water Review

We visit the shoreline, read the depth and the seasonal water swing, and talk through how you plan to use the dock, whether that is a boat lift, swimming, or morning coffee over the water.

2

Design and Permitting

You get a plan and a fixed price, and we prepare the permit package for the right authority, from the local county to the Army Corps of Engineers or NC DEQ on the larger lakes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Almost always, and which agency depends on the water. Docks on Falls Lake or Jordan Lake go through the US Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District, private and community waters may involve NC DEQ or the county, and we prepare and submit the paperwork for you.
It depends on how much your water level moves. Floating docks rise and fall with the lake and suit reservoirs with a big seasonal swing, while fixed piling docks work well where the depth stays steadier. We recommend the one that fits your shoreline after we read the site.
Yes. We build covered boathouses and install lifts sized to your boat, so it stays out of the water and the sun between trips. A lift can also be added to many existing docks.
We use pressure-treated and marine-grade framing with corrosion-resistant, hot-dipped or stainless hardware, since freshwater and constant moisture punish ordinary fasteners fast.
Once the permit clears, most docks take a couple of weeks of on-site work. The permitting timeline on the bigger lakes can add weeks before that, and we tell you what to expect up front.
We do. If your pilings and frame are still sound, a repair or re-deck may be enough. If the structure has gone too far, we will say so and price a replacement honestly.

Raleigh is a fast-growing capital city with more water around its edges than newcomers expect. Falls Lake and Jordan Lake sit just outside town, city-run Lake Wheeler draws paddlers close in, and Harris Lake stretches across the southwest county line, all of it woven between the greenways and neighborhoods that make the Triangle what it is. For a homeowner with frontage on one of those waters, a well-built dock is the difference between looking at the lake and living on it. You can get a feel for the wider area through the Greater Raleigh visitor guide, and the City of Raleigh site covers the local waters the city itself manages.
